Technology - Foods Technician


The role of the Technology - Foods Technician is to primarily support teachers and students in the Technology (Foods) learning area. This support occurs through the preparation, organisation, and management of equipment, foodstuffs, laundry, and learning resources for teaching and learning programmes.

This role supports innovative and sustainable learning practices and is grounded in the values of mahitahi, manaakitanga, and mana motuhake. We are seeking a passionate, well-organised person who works collaboratively and has the opportunity to contribute ideas and implement practices that enhance learning programmes, systems, and resource use.

We are looking for a person who holds the following skills and/or demonstrates a willingness to learn:

  • Food Preparation and Learning Support: Proficiency in preparing, organising, and managing food items, equipment, and resources for Technology (Foods) and Culinary Arts learning programmes, ensuring readiness and quality of all materials.

  • Inventory and Budget Management: Strong organisational skills to maintain accurate stock levels, conduct regular stocktakes, manage online ordering, and adhere to budget requirements, with attention to efficiency, waste minimisation, and sustainability.

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Knowledge of New Zealand Health and Safety Standards, with a commitment to maintaining high food safety and hygiene standards. A current first aid certificate is preferred, or a willingness to obtain one.

  • Communication and Teamwork (Mahitahi & Manaakitanga):Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with teachers, students, and external suppliers. Confidence in managing requests, coordinating resources, and contributing ideas that support improvement and innovation.

  • Event Support and Catering Experience: Practical experience with front-of-house and kitchen responsibilities, ideally with exposure to catering for events or functions. This experience supports programme events and food preparation for large groups.

  • Culinary Garden and Sustainability: Maintaining and supporting the planning of the Culinary Arts vegetable and herb garden to enable the use of fresh, seasonal produce in senior Culinary Arts classes, embedding and modelling sustainable practices

The Details on the Role:

This is a permanent, term-time only position, requiring 22.0 hours per week. The schedule is structured as 4.40 hours per day, worked over five days a week.

  • Renumeration: Grade 2 of Support Staff in School's Collective Agreement - Administration Support Staff Pay Rates.
