Technology - Workshop Technician


Do you have woodworking experience and can operate and maintain machinery used when working with wood? Do you understand and can apply health and safety practices? Have you had some metal work experience too? Could you cut and prepare wood for students’ projects and help create and maintain systems in our workshop? If you can answer yes, then we have the job for you!

The role of the Technology (Hard Materials) Learning Resources Technician  is to primarily support teachers and students in the Technology (Hard Materials) learning area. This support occurs through the preparation, organisation, management and maintenance of machinery and equipment, hard materials, and learning resources for teaching and learning programmes.

This role supports innovative and sustainable learning practices and is grounded in the values of mahitahi, manaakitanga, and mana motuhake. We are seeking a passionate, well-organised person who works collaboratively and has the opportunity to contribute ideas and implement practices that enhance learning programmes, systems, and resource use.

We are looking for a person who holds the following skills and/or demonstrates a willingness to learn:

  • Preparation and Management of Hard Materials: Proficiency in preparing, organising, and managing wood items for learning programs, ensuring readiness and quality of all materials.

  • Inventory and Budget Management: Strong organisational skills to maintain accurate stock levels, conduct regular stocktaking, manage online ordering, and adhere to budget requirements.

  • Technical Management and Maintenance: proficiency in ensuring all machinery and equipment is well-maintained. 

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Knowledge of New Zealand Health and Safety Standards, with a commitment to maintaining high standards in the workshop. A current first aid certificate is preferred, or the willingness to obtain one.

  • Communication and Teamwork: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with teachers, students, and external suppliers. Confidence in managing requests and coordinating resources to meet program needs.

The Details on the Role:

This is a permanent, term-time only position, requiring 5.0 hours per week, with the possiblity of some negotiated additional hours if required.

  • Renumeration: Grade 2 of Support Staff in School's Collective Agreement - Administration Support Staff Pay Rates.
